CORS Toronto Student Chapter

What is OR?

Operations Research (OR) is a branch of applied mathematics that uses mathematical modeling and optimization techniques to solve real-world decision-making problems. It provides a quantitative approach to optimize industry-driven objectives that are desirable to specific fields of applications. Major methodologies used in OR include simulation, mathematical programming, and probability and statistics. Application areas of OR include financial engineering, health care, manufacturing, service sciences, supply chain management, policy modeling and public sector work, revenue management, and transportation, among others.

About the Toronto Student Chapter of CORS

The CORS Toronto Student Chapter is a self-governing part of CORS located in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. We serve the interests of the OR community in Toronto and provide a means of communication among students, researchers and practitioners interested in OR techniques. The Toronto Student Chapter is currently supported by the following departments:

Department of MIE at University of Toronto
Rotman School of Management at University of Toronto
Department of MIE at Ryerson University

Any Toronto student body interested in OR are also welcome to get involved with and support the Toronto Student Chapter. Activities of the Toronto Student chapter include student research presentations, guest speakers, industry seminars and events, mentorship programs and educational programs.

Upcoming Events

We are planning to host a student social event and a software workshop for the coming summer. We are also planning to hold an INFORMS student seminar this October. Specific event details will be posted soon.

CORS Diploma

For students with a suitable background in OR techniques, CORS offers the opportunity to receive a diploma that certifies their qualifications. Further information can be found on the CORS website at www.cors.ca.
